The Elkjøp business case exemplifies how a forward-thinking retailer can successfully navigate an evolving retail landscape. This case study examines Elkjøp’s journey from two perspectives. First, as a leading Nordic retailer in consumer electronics and appliances, Elkjøp has demonstrated resilience and adaptability, using innovative technology to meet consumer demands. Second, as a member of Currys PLC, Elkjøp has access to extensive resources and expertise, enhancing its customer-centric approach and sustainability initiatives. Through its extensive store network and online presence, Elkjøp has made a lasting impact in the Nordic region and serves as a model of innovation for global retailers.

“We previously managed all onboarding manually with Excel sheets, but we are now switching to a more automated process. Icecat makes it easier for us and for certain suppliers to onboard and send SKUs to Elkjøp.”

Elkjøp is a leading Nordic retail company specializing in consumer electronics and household appliances. It was founded in 1962 and is headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Elkjøp operates a network of retail stores across the Nordic countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. The company’s impact extends beyond the Nordic region and has influenced the global retail industry as well. As part of the Currys PLC, Elkjøp has access to a broader network of resources and expertise. This has allowed the company to stay at the forefront of technological advancements and offer a wide range of products from leading brands.

In 2018, a custom data transformation platform was built for Elkjøp’s Supplier Article Onboarding program, allowing vendors to supply content via Icecat. Within a year, numerous brands, including Nordic Season, Adax, Babyliss, Smeg, Denver Electronics, Fujifilm, Polaroid, HP, Philips, Versuni, and TCL, began participating in the program, sharing their content with Elkjøp through Icecat. Elkjøp’s e-commerce environment had to be fed with product data conforming to multiple classification and taxonomy standards. This project covers direct Icecat to Elkjøp mappings and mappings of the Icecat data model to all these standards.
